Leisure & Tourism

If there was a bird that sums up our plans for Leisure & Tourism News it is the Sea Gull, especially the Herring Gull.

We have covered many aspects of Leisure over the years but the one's that bring back the best memories always seem to have a Sea Gull somewhere in the photograph.

Since 1992, when LTN was created, we have not been far away from the sport of fishing, and even our culinary programs tend to feature seafood.

From a website I found: "Fishing continues to be a favorite pastime in the United States, in 2001, 16% of the U.S. population 16 years old and older (34 million anglers) spent an average of 16 days fishing. Freshwater fishing was the most popular type of fishing with over 28 million anglers devoting nearly 467 million angler-days to the sport."

Maybe we will adopt the Gull as our mascot.

The Fisherman

There is a peace and beauty about fishing that just can't be described. The cares of the world just seem to drift away in the gentle noise of the waves, or the stream.

Studies have been undertaken that proves fishing leads to a better, and more relaxed lifestyle.

Alan Simpson has been a fisherman for over fifty years, from the lakes of England, Texas and Florida, to the wide oceans off Australia and the United States.

This love of the Great Outdoors has prompted him to leave aside the Corridors of Power in Washington, DC and focus on the Chesapeake Bay, as well as the occasional trips North and to Florida.

In the months ahead he will be writing and filming the pleasures of fishing, the tranquility of the surroundings, and the enjoyment of the Great Outdoors.

Those Hidden Getaways

The days of mass tourism may be at an end thanks to the sky high price of fuel, and the growing restrictions to the travel experience thanks to geopolitical events.

Many are starting to realize again that there is beauty everywhere, and maybe a quiet weekend looking at the sea, lakes or the mountains can achieve more than being thrown around on Roller Coasters, jostled by swarming crowds and putting up with the stress and inconvenience of the major tourism destinations.

LTN is looking at the trends for leisure, which have taken a marked shift in direction.
